Bienvenue à Paris! While the iconic landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and Louvre Museum often steal the spotlight, there's a hidden gem waiting to be discovered just a stone's throw away. If you need a break from museums and want to venture a little off the beaten path, you might consider escaping to the 12th arrondissement. Here you’ll find a small street that packs a colorful punch - Rue Crémieux! From the Marais we caught the Yellow Line (line 1) to Gare de Lyon and then a pleasant walk from there…. total travel time was less than 15 minutes. The cobblestoned street is snuggly anchored between rue de Lyon and rue de Bercy. The street is named after Adolphe Crémieux (1796-1880) — a Jewish lawyer and politician who was a human rights advocate representing the Jewish community in France.
If you choose to visit this vibrant street, we suggest you go early in the day. This colorful street is a magnet for Instagram and Tik Tok lovers - IIt can get quite crowded! We encourage you to visit respectfully (it is a residential street and I can only image how difficult it must be to have loud crowds right outside their front doors).
In addition, you may like to check out the Coulée vert René-Dumont while you’re in this area. It’s a pretty greenbelt (about 5 miles) that follows the old Vincennes railway. You’ll see local joggers and residents and the walk gives you the opportunity to admire views of the 12th arrondissement. The walk conveniently ends at the Bois de Vincennes which is the perfect stopping point for a picnic lunch! Let us know if you get a chance to visit this joyously colorful corner of Paris! Happy Travels!
